Chamber members represent businesses of all sizes and industries and viewpoints. Together, we're shaping greater Shawnee's dynamic business environment and making the city an exceptional place to live, work and play. Join us and make your own connections.

Our programs are the key to success. Your organization needs to be involved and active with the Chamber if at all possible. The Chamber is the best place to create and build relationships with potential clients, referral partners, vendors and customers essential to your business growth and success. Chamber members unity to form a network of nearly 500 businesses driving our economy. For detailed information of benefits, visit Programs & Events. Below is a general list. Referrals. Chamber members are recommended in response to requests on the availability of specific types of goods and/or services. Thousands of people visit and phone the Chamber each year in search of reputable firms with which to do business.

Chamber Choice. Group Health insurance is offered to members through the Oklahoma City Chamber and Blue Cross/Blue Shield at a very competitive rate.

Brochure Display. Members are encouraged to display brochures describing their goods and services in the Chamber lobby as a resource for newcomers and visitors. Limited space is available.

Special List Publication. Visitors often inquire about accommodations, civic clubs, Realtors, apartments, and restaurants while in the area. To meet their needs, the Chamber produces these listings and they are available on request.

Membership Listing. A listing of Chamber members is free to members. Mailing labels can be purchased at a nominal charge.

Area Map. Maps of the greater Shawnee area are available at no charge. Advertising in the map is available to members only, and this map is the only map distributed by the Chamber.

Vital Statistics. Demographic statistics, growth projection, survey results, city directories, and other information sources accumulated by the Chamber are available for use by its members.

Visitor Information Packet Program. Packets are sent yearly to people who indicate an interest in the greater Shawnee area. Coupons from your business may be included in these packets.

• Lifestyle Guide. The Chamber produces a full-color, high quality magazine for distribution at trade shows, to visitors and newcomers, and to the membership.

Business Directory. All Chamber members are listed, free of charge, according to classification and again by your main contact's name. It is a separate publication.

Chamber Website. The Chamber website contains useful information to anyone interested in visiting or relocating to Shawnee. Your business is listed in the membership directory. A link can be established to your home page, free of charge.

Newsletter. Members receive the Chamber's newsletter. This publication provides up-to-date information important to businesses and notification of all Chamber activities. All new members are listed in the newsletter.

Notary Service. Documents can be notarized for members at no charge.
 
Ribbon Cuttings/Grand Openings. The Chamber Ambassadors sponsor new business ribbon cuttings for members of the Chamber. Local newspapers will publish the event free of charge.

Seminars. The Chamber provides periodic educational seminars for businesses and their employees.

 

 

COMMITTEES

Looking for a way to get more involved? The Chamber offers members many opportunities to share their expertise and enthusiasm with the community.

Leadership Shawnee. Leadership Shawnee is a comprehensive program designed to identify, develop, and motivate new leadership for the Shawnee community. Program objectives are accomplished by team-building activities and exposure to local issues, regional resources, and various community leaders. Youth Leadership Shawnee introduces high school students to city government and the importance of being involved in your local community.

Ambassador Club. 
The Ambassador Club serves as a liaison between the Chamber Board and its membership. The Ambassadors act as an extension of the Chamber staff to strengthen membership, acquaint new members with Chamber benefits and programs, represent the Chamber at various functions and determine possible problem areas with the membership.

Agri-Business. The Chamber understands and supports the economic impact made by the agricultural industry. It sponsors the annual Pott County Jr. Livestock Show and Premium Auction, hosts Agri-Business Career Day for Pottawatomie County High School students,organizes an annual Farm Tour, sponsors and promotes the Farmer's market, and sponsors an annual Farmer/Rancher Appreciation Event.

City Beautification. In coordination with the City, the Downtown Shawnee Association, and garden clubs, the Chamber is working to develop a master plan for landscaping and maintaining primary entrances to the City and major thoroughfares. Biannual cleanup campaigns are sponsored to promote pride in our community.

Education. The Chamber is actively involved in promoting Shawnee as a pro-education community. We are promoting a partnership between the business community and educational institutions in developing long-range plans for improving education experience, services, and facilities. "Adopt-a-School" and "Adopt-a-Class" are programs sponsored by the Chamber. We are also working to implement a program designed to educate and enhance a quality workforce.

Economic Development. The Chamber works in partnership with the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation in an effort to bring more business and industry to the greater Shawnee area to insure progressive, diversified economic growth, yet maintaining the outstanding quality of life.

Business and Government Relations. The Chamber serves as the business voice of the local government. We continually monitor state and federal legislation that affect local business and industry for the community. Chamber members are invited to participate in the Washington, D.C. trip for the purpose of discussing critical community issues with our representatives. Candidate Forums and Legislative Luncheons allow members to stay up-to-date on current legislative issues.

City Government Relations. The Chamber works in cooperation with the City of Shawnee in the development of the Overall Comprehensive Plan, the development of our transportation system, recommends and supports improvements to over all infrastructure improvements, and promotes development of affordable housing. We work at keeping membership informed on issues such as labor, regulatory issues, short and long-term planning and capital needs.

Small Business Council. A group of business leaders gather monthly to discuss common business goals and problems and to development plans to vitalize Shawnee's business community.

Leadership Opportunities. Leadership opportunities exist for all members. The Board of Directors and the Executive Committee are elected from the membership representing industry, small business, professional, financial, health care and retail.

Annual Meeting. Chamber members are invited to attend the Annual Meeting and Banquet. Outgoing Board members, the chairman, and chairman of all committees are recognized for their accomplishments. Awards are presented, including Small Business Person of the Year, the Gordon C. Richards, Sr. Service Award, Neill & Mary Wiley Volunteer of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, and Agri-Business Person of the Year.
